So, inspired by the movie “Valentine’s Day” a couple of my friends and I decided to throw an “I Hate Valentine’s Day Party”. We don’t necessarily hate Valentine’s Day, just being alone with nothing else to do, so we had a party. It was a huge success and lots of fun. We carefully planned out the menu, decorated, had a photo booth complete with costumes and a heart pinata to beat up. It was such a fun night, I had to share our party ideas with you guys.
We’ll start first with the decor! Any party place has tons of Valentine’s decorations, but we wanted something inexpensive yet classy… SO how about a bunch of precut hearts for $0.50 each? We made an “Anti Valentine” banner and then took the rest and decorated them with a black Sharpie, writing cute sayings on them and cutting them in half. Then we used curling ribbon to hang them from the ceiling… Simple, yet perfect!
Next we have the FOOD! The most important thing:-) We created a menu that was “Anti-Valentines Day” themed, from the actual ingredients to the name of the food. We started with “Love is the Pits” – Garlic, olive cheese bread; “Sloppy French Kiss” – French Onion Stuffed Mushrooms; “Amor Frio” – Panzenella (cold Italian salad); “Green With Envy” – Spinach artichoke Dip. Then we had main dishes which included “Skew You” – Chicken Teriyaki Kabobs, “Crabby Cakes”; and “Tainted Love” – Black & White pasta with tomatoes, Parmesan cheese and pesto. I made name tags for each item, complete with the name and description of the food.
Now for DESSERT! We had “Hole in my Heart” – Red Velvet & Devil’s Food cake ball lollipops; “Dump Cake”; “Broken Hearts” – iced sugar cookies; and “Bleeding Hearts” – strawberry & devil’s food skewers. It was all SO yummy and fun to plan around a theme.
Enough about the food, let’s talk about what else we did. For entertainment the rest of the evening, we had a photobooth set up with fun costumes for people to wear and take fun photos with. We had a heart pinata to bust open filled with yummy candy! What a fun way to spend Valentine’s Day with good friends! I hope this inspires you and gives you all some good ideas for how to throw your own “Anti-Valentines Day” Party, or tweak a few things and you can make it a fun “I LOVE Valentine’s Day Party”
